현재 바흐의 오리지널 《마르쿠스 수난곡》은 가사(Libretto)만 남아있고 악보의 대부분이 소실되어, 이 출판본은 리하르트 슈토이어(Reinhard Schwarz)의 재구성 버전을 기반으로 합니다.


유실된 원본 악보를 바탕으로 피칸더(Picander)의 가사 및 바흐의 다른 기존 작품들(칸타타 등)에서 가져온 유사한 음악을 활용하여 재구성되었습니다

Although all that survives of Bach's “St. Mark Passion” is Picander's libretto, virtually all the arias and choruses can be reconstructed from “parody” versions. The original recitatives and turbae , however, are probably lost forever. Rather than rewriting these numbers “in Bachs's style”, Gomme has added passages from Reinhard Keiser's setting of the Passion (a setting highly esteemed by Bach, who performed it several times), thereby allowing this lost work to be performed in its entirety. A detailed preface sheds further light on this unique reconstruction based on the New Bach Edition.


바흐의 "성 마르코 수난곡"은 피칸더의 대본만 남아 있지만, 거의 모든 아리아와 합창곡은 "패러디" 버전을 통해 복원할 수 있습니다. 그러나 원곡의 레치타티보와 투르바에는 아마도 영원히 사라졌을 것입니다. 곰은 이 곡들을 "바흐 스타일"로 다시 쓰는 대신, 라인하르트 카이저의 수난곡(바흐가 여러 번 연주할 정도로 높이 평가했던 곡)에서 발췌한 구절들을 추가하여, 이 사라진 작품을 온전히 연주할 수 있도록 했습니다. 상세한 서문은 신 바흐 판본을 기반으로 한 이 독특한 복원 작업에 대해 더 자세히 설명합니다.
