Gra ("Play" in Polish) for solo clarinet was composed in honor of my dear friend Witold Lutoslawski on the occasion of his 80th birthday. In the approximately twenty-five years that I have known Witold, I have never ceased to admire his impressive works and his kind character.

This piece for clarinet, varied and cheerful (yet always based on the same material), reminds me of my frequent, pleasant visits to the composer in America and Poland.

그라(폴란드어로 "연주")는 제 소중한 친구 비톨트 루토슬라프스키의 80세 생일을 기념하여 작곡한 독주 클라리넷 작품입니다. 비톨트를 알게 된 지 약 25년이 지났지만, 저는 그의 인상적인 작품들과 친절한 성품에 끊임없이 감탄해 왔습니다.

다채롭고 경쾌하지만 항상 같은 소재를 기반으로 하는 이 클라리넷 작품은 제가 미국과 폴란드에서 작곡가를 자주, 그리고 즐겁게 방문했던 추억을 떠올리게 합니다.
