This edition attempts to take historical developments into account and therefore presents the original version (for the third-fourth violoncello tuned A-D-F-Sharp-A, notated in the treble clef) in the score, with some dynamic additions.

Since this publication is primarily intended for practical use, the editor recommends the current solo tuning: F-Sharp-H-E-A. The arrangement (in the double bass solo part) has been made with this in mind.
