Toshio Hosokawa's Etude I-VI for piano includes all six of Hosokawa's etudes composed between 2011 and 2013.

토시오 호소카와의 피아노를 위한 에튀드 I-VI에는 호소카와가 2011년부터 2013년 사이에 작곡한 6개의 에튀드가 모두 들어 있습니다.

Hosokawa wxplains, "Piano is an instrument that was born from European Music, and it is an extremely difficult Instrument with which to express my musical language, which develops out of an Eastern mindset. These six studies are the 'etudes' I wrote in order to challenge myself to learn how to realise my own original music on the piano."

The particular idea or aesthetic that led Hosokawa to compose each piece is laid bare in the music, and further described in ist subtitle. Because of the high technical demand of these etudes, they are ideal new repertoire for piano recitals.

Etude I was composed as the required repertoire for the final at the 58th Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in 2011, and the revised version (2012) was premiered by Kei Itoh. Etude II was commissioned by Chuden Real Estate Co., Inc. and premiered by Yu Kosuge. The last four pieces, Etudes III to VI were co-commissioned by Lucerne Festival, Tokyo Opera City Cultural Foundation, and Wigmore Hall (with the support of Andre Hoffmann, president of the Fondation Hoffmann). Momo Kodama performed all six etudes – giving the world premiere of III to VI – at the Lucerne Festival at the piano in November 2013.

호소카와는 "피아노는 유럽 음악에서 태어난 악기이며, 동양적 사고방식에서 발전한 제 음악 언어를 표현하기에 매우 어려운 악기입니다. 이 여섯 가지 스터디는 제가 피아노로 제 오리지널 음악을 실현하는 방법을 배우기 위해 쓴 '에튀드'입니다."라고 말했습니다.

호소카와가 각 작품을 작곡하게 된 특정한 아이디어나 미학은 음악에 그대로 드러나 있으며, 부제에서 자세히 설명합니다. 이러한 에튀드는 높은 기술적 요구로 인해 피아노 독주회를 위한 이상적인 새로운 레퍼토리입니다.

에튀드 I은 2011년 제58회 페루치오 부조니 국제 피아노 콩쿠르의 결승전 필수 레퍼토리로 작곡되었고, 개정판(2012년)은 이토 게이가 초연했습니다. 에튀드 II는 주덴 부동산 주식회사가 의뢰하여 코스게 유가 초연했습니다. 마지막 네 작품인 Etudes III에서 VI는 루체른 페스티벌, 도쿄 오페라 시티 문화재단, 위그모어 홀(Fondation Hoffmann의 회장인 Andre Hoffmann의 지원)에서 공동으로 의뢰했습니다. 모모 코다마는 2013년 11월 루체른 페스티벌에서 피아노로 III에서 VI까지 모든 6개의 에튀드를 연주했습니다.
