When Franz Liszt arranged Isoldens Liebestod for piano solo, he adhered closely to Wagner's orchestral setting. The Latvian pianist and composer Vestard Shimkus, however, approaches Wagner from a modern perspective and breaks through Wagner's melody and harmony with contemporary challenging sound cascades.
